Return & Refund Policy

Online return window

Most eligible items purchased through the Modern State online store may be submitted for return within 15 calendar days after confirmed delivery. A verified order number and the matching customer information are required as proof of purchase. Merchandise must be unused, unopened, complete, and in its original salable condition with all original product packaging intact. All returns are subject to receipt and inspection before approval.

Sale merchandise follows the same policy unless the product is marked Final sale, As is, or otherwise non-returnable before purchase. We do not charge a restocking fee.

Final sale and restricted merchandise

Holiday and seasonal merchandise, personalized merchandise, merchandise marked Final sale or As is, products from non-returnable brands, intimate apparel, and opened cosmetics, personal-care, health, hygiene, body-contact, Party, or sealed products are not returnable for preference reasons.

A Final sale or other return restriction does not waive review of a timely claim that merchandise arrived damaged, defective, incomplete, or incorrect. Evidence may be required, and restricted-item claims may require manual review.

Return shipping and original fulfillment charges

For an approved claim that merchandise arrived damaged, defective, incomplete, or incorrect, Modern State pays the authorized return-label cost. The applicable original shipping or local-delivery charge is also refundable when the approved claim results from our merchandise or fulfillment error.

For an eligible preference return—including a change of mind, ordering by mistake, color preference, or fit of the selected size—the customer is responsible for return shipping. The exact return-label charge is displayed in the return quote before the request is submitted and, if accepted, is deducted from the approved refund. Original shipping and local-delivery charges are not refundable for preference returns. Do not send merchandise without an authorized return and instructions.

Refund method and timing

Approved refunds include the price actually paid for accepted merchandise and the associated refundable tax, adjusted for discounts. Refunds are issued to the original payment method after the merchandise is received, inspected, and financially reconciled. We initiate an approved refund within 10 business days after inspection is completed; the payment provider or financial institution may require additional time to post it.

Some claims, partial-quantity returns, missing delivery evidence, or financial adjustments require manual review. The return status will remain pending until the required review and provider reconciliation are complete. Store credit or an exchange is provided only when separately offered and accepted; an exchange request is not guaranteed.
